When will a carbon atom act as a nucleophile; when as an electrophile?

Question:

When will a carbon atom act as a nucleophile; when as an electrophile?

Answers

Carbon oxidation state varied from +4 to -4 state

when carbon is bounded to an electronegative atom such as halogens, nitrogen or oxygen, the shared pair of electrons are shifted more towards the electronegative atom. Thus carbon in such cases have a +ve charge on it and acts as a electrophile for example in alkyl halides.

when the leaving group attached to carbon leaves with a +ve charge, such that leaving behind its shared pair of electron. The carbon gets a -ve charge and in such cases it acts as a nucleophile for example in grignard reagents.
