Answers

The red cross protocol for testing donated blood is

1. Donation of the blood is done, before donation health of the person is checked and some tests are performed. One pint of the blood is collected from the donor and several small tubes of blood is also collected for testing. Donor’s tubes are labeled and stored for testing. Test tubes are taken to lab at red cross center

2.

At the red cross center blood is processed. Donor’s information is feed in the computer at the center. Test tubes are set in centrifuges for the separation of the blood components. To reduce the risk of reaction to the receptor of blood ,white blood cells are removed. Components of the blood are separated and are packed as separate units

3.

Number of tests are performed on the blood in lab to know the blood group and its type. Results obtained are transferred to processing center.

4. good blood that is transfusable is labelled and stored for the recipients. Blood components are stored at their desired temperatures.

5. blood is now ready for transfusion

6.

When a patients arrives at hospital and is in need of blood, patients blood group and its type is determined and then the blood is transfused
