Measurement validity, as well as reliability, are used to assess the quality of the research done. Reliability is how unfailingly the method used measures the variables. It has to be observed that the same results must be achieved by using the only method in the same situations. However, validity shows how correct the results obtained from the said methods are.

For research to be highly valid, the results obtained must be consistent with the real properties of the given variable. For instance, if there is a liquid sample and you measure the temperature of that liquid daily under similar circumstances and the results are the same, then the results so obtained can be said as reliable. On the other hand, if the thermometer shows all the different results even when the circumstances are similar, then the thermometer might be faulty and thus, the results are invalid. But in many situations, reliability does not ensure validity to the fullest. It might not be valid in real-life situations.

There must be strong research done to ensure the reliability and validity match real-life situations.
