Of the different types of photoreceptors in the human eye, rods are responsible for hypersensitivity to light in low-luminance levels.

There are two photoreceptors in human eye that are found in retina, rods and cons. While cones are sensitive to color and work well in bright environments, its rods that are more sensitive to low lights thus guide the vision in dim lights. Rods are found in the outer areas of retina, thus help us in peripheral vision.
