JEAN WATSONS THEORY of caring is based on seven main assumptions. They are,

1) Caring consists of creative factors that results in the satisfaction of certain human needs.

2) A caring environment is one that offers the development of potential while allowing the person to choose the best action for himself or herself at a given point in time.People will feel that they are more cared for when they are empowered to make their own choices about healthcare.

3) Caring can be effectively demonstrated and practiced only interpersonally. There must be personal contact for caring to occur.

4) Effective caring promotes health and individual or family growth.Caring can directly contribute to the overall welfare of the patients and the patients family.

5) Caring response accept person not only as he or she is now but as what he or she may become. The potential of a person is as important as the person in their current state of being.

6) Caring is more helathogenic than is curing .A science of caring is complementary to the science of curing.Caring and curing need to coexist for the individual to achieve their maximum health potential.

7) The practice of caring is central to nursing.Caring is at the center of nursing practice.Nurses must engage in caring in order to be effective at improving the health and wellness of their patients.

A Metaparadigm is a set of theories or ideas that provide structure for how a discipline should function. For a nursing discipline, these theories consists of 4 basic concepts that address the patient as a whole, the patients health and wellbeing, the patients environment and the nursing responsibilities.

1) PERSONAL COMPONENT

-- The person component of the metaparadigm focuses on the receiver of care. However, the person connection also includes family members and other groups important to the patient.

-- The care structure considers the persons spiritual and social need as well as health care needs.

2) ENVIRONMENT COMPONENT

-- The environment aspect the nursing metaparadigm focuses on the surroundings that affect the patient. The environment consists of internal and external influences, and contends that how a person continuously interact with her surroundings has been bearing on health and wellness.

-- Interactions with family, friends and other people are part of the environment as are physical and social factors such as economic conditions geographic locations, culture, social connections and technology.

3) HEALTH COMPONENT

--The health component of the four metaparadigm refers to the extent of wellness and health care access that a patient has.

-- This health component is characterized as one with multiple dimensions in a constant state of motion.

-- Health and wellness covers a persons lifespan and genetic makeup, and how the physical, emotional, intellectual, social and spiritual wellbeing is integrated in health care for maximum health benefits.

4) NURSING COMPONENT

-- The nursing component of the metaparadigm involves the delivery of optimal health outcomes for the patient through a mutual relationship in a safe and caring environment.

--The nursing components applies principles of knowledge, skills, technology, collaborations, professional judgment and communication to carry out duties and responsibilities for achieving the best possible scenario in patient health outcome.
