Question:

Four former healthcare professionals filed separate lawsuits against Capital Health Regional Medical Center in Trenton, New Jersey, claiming they faced months of racial and disability discrimination before they were unjustly fired. One of the lawsuits was filed on behalf of an African American woman who worked at the hospital as a medical assistant. She claims she was subjected to racial slurs from one supervisor and that another supervisor made racist comments around her. In her lawsuit, she claimed she was fired in June 2015 and replaced with a Caucasian employee. Two other former employees—a nurse and a medical assistant—claim they were also subjected to racial discrimination. The nurse was fired in June 2015, and the medical assistant was fired in February 2015, and both claim they were replaced by Caucasian employees. The fourth lawsuit was brought on behalf of a nurse practitioner working at the hospital. The nurse practitioner began working at the hospital in 2013, but she was left disabled by a car crash in March 2015. Although she could still perform her duties with accommodations for her disability, she was fired in May 2015. She further alleges that the hospital retaliated against her for refusing to prescribe medication to patients when she thought they were abusing drugs and for objecting to racial discrimination that she witnessed. How is discrimination in the workplace defined? If the racial comments came from coworkers and not the supervisors, would this still be defined as discrimination?

Answers

Discrimination is a wide term involved abusing, pressuring, demotivating people's or group of people based on their caste, race, and religion etc. Whenever we are working in company or other organization like school or government office, we are finding such cases. Discrimination also involved abusing a women employee by a man or her manager or coworker but in some cases it is reverse also like some time women also abusing man employee and it come under gender discrimination. Discrimination at workplace include shouting on employee with word which can involve his or her caste, races and others like you are black because of that work is not processing etc. Some employees are disable also , few time they are also getting discrimination.

If racial comments is coming from coworkers is also considered as discrimination because here word is important not the person who is telling means his post or designation.

The person who is discrimated he feel underestimate culture in company, he is unable to survive even he can't performed his day to day activity , hence discrimination doesn't see the designation.
