This is a very interesting question because I personally experienced this situation. Today i want to share my worst experience in hospital. My father was diagnosed blood cancer before some time. After detection doctor suggest for the chemotherapy. Hospital was 130 kilometer away from my home so every week, I had to go by car with my father for chemotherapy.
Before starting of chemotherapy process, they admitted my father and did some necessary tests like blood sugar check, blood pressure, weight etc. Chemotherapy given by the medicine, not by rays. So before every chemotherapy, I had to purchase very costly chemotherapy medicines from hospital then handover to doctors for the further process. Chemotherapy was given by the senior doctors but during one chemotherapy, management appoint a junior doctor for this process and he was not used to with chemotherapy process. When he was mixing the medicine in injection, suddenly he wasted lots of medicine from their injection due to mishandling of injection and more than half of medicine spread on bed.
The medicine was very costly and very important for the chemotherapy process. After this incident, I complained about this incident to hospital management because junior doctor wasted lots of medicine due to mishandling. He also did not wear gloves before giving the injection which is the standard procedure to give chemotherapy medicine. After complaining that incident, management took it very seriously and assured me that from the next time, chemotherapy will be given by the expert doctor and from the next chemotherapy, experienced doctors gave chemotherapy to my father. So they handled the situation from the next time.
Yes I believe that the standard of care was violated because before the chemotherapy procedure, they have to wear the proper spatial chemotherapy dress and have to wear gloves but the doctor did not follow that and he also wasted lots of medicine due to mishandling. So he definitely violated the standard. But I am very thankful to the hospital management that he listened my complain and took the action on that and did not repeat that doctor from the next time.
